Create a Test:
  • Go to a Content Area/Folder
    • Blackboard course come with two default Content Areas: Content and Information, located on the Left Menu
  • Click Assessments tab
  • Click Test
  • Click Create
  • Fill in name and other necessary information
  • Click Submit
  • You are now on the Test Canvas Page
  • To add questions either:
    • Create new Questions
      • Click Create Question
      • Select the type of question

        • To learn how to add media to your test questions or answers visit this page.
  • Add question from past tests
    • Click Reuse Question
    • Click Find Questions
    • Select a method for adding questions:
      • Copy: if a copied question is changed, the changes only occur in this test
      • Link: if a linked question is changed, those changes are reflected in every test and survey where that question appears.
    • Click Continue
    • Select Criteria to find questions
    • Select Question
    • Click Submit
  • Use questions from your computer
    • Click Upload Questions
    • Click Browse
    • Select File
    • Click Open
    • Set points per question
    • For more help, visit this page
  • Once finished, click OK
  • You are now on the Create Test page
    • If you are not brought back there, repeat the first three steps.
  • Select the test from the Add an Existing Test menu
  • Click Submit
  • Fill out the appropriate information for the test
  • Select Yes by Make the link available
  • Select any Standard Options wanted
  • Select any Advanced Options wanted
  • Click Submit


Link to a Previously Made Test
  • Go to Content Area/Folder
    • Blackboard course come with two default Content Areas: Content and Information, located on the Left Menu
  • Click Assessments tab
  • Click Test
  • Select Test from the Add an Existing Test box
  • Click Submit
  • Fill in all necessary information
  • Select any Advanced Options wanted
  • Select Yes by Make the link available
  • Click Submit


Delete a Test
  • Mouse over the test’s name
  • Click the arrow next to the name to open the Context Menu
  • Click Delete
  • Click OK



Advanced Options
Add a new announcement for this test: Select whether to send an announcement saying there is a new test available.
Multiple attempts: If you chose to allow multiple attempts, you can either allow an unlimited number or a number of your choice.
Score attempts using: If you chose to allow multiple attempts, you how the test is graded, using the highest grade, lowest grade, first graded attempt, or average of graded attempts
Force Completion: This means once started, this test must be completed in one sitting.
Set Timer: Set expected completion time. Selecting this option also records completion time for this test. Students will see the timer option before they begin the test.
Auto-submit: If you set a timer, you can choose whether the test is automatically submitted at the end of that time, or if the student will be allowed to complete the test.
Password: Require a password to access the test
Test Availability Exceptions: You can choose either Students or Groups to be given different availability for tests, and to change the number of attempts they receive.
Due Date: After setting the Due Date, set whether Students can attempt after the Due Date (with the Test being marked Late) or not.
Self-Assessment Options: Select whether to show the result in the Grade Center and to the instructor.
If you chose to not show the result in the Grade Center, the instructor will not be able to see any student grades, view answers, aggregate results, or download result details. To protect student privacy, this choice cannot be reversed later without deleting all attempts. If an instructor decides to include the test in the Grade Center after it was hidden, all prior attempts will be deleted.

Test Results and Feedback: You may set two rules for how students receive their test results and feedback.
Rule 1:
  • Select when the test results are shown: after submission, one-time view, on a specific date, after due date, after availability end date, after attempts are graded,
  • Select whether to show the score for each question
  • Select whether to show all answers possible, correct answers, and/or submitted answers
  • Select whether to mark questions answered incorrectly
Rule 2:
  • Basically the same as Rule 1, except the when options are: on a specific date, after due date, after availability end date, or after attempts are graded
Test Presentation: Choose between three option for how the questions are presented to the Student: all at once, one at a time (with an option to prohibit backtracking). You may also select whether or not to have the questions randomized.
